Overthinking

7 years ago, I asked my friend, Josh, his secret to happiness 😊. He said, "𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗽𝘀." I was furious at his "irresponsible" answer.

Back then, I couldn't understand. Weren't problems meant to be fixed? Isn't there some effort required? Problems don't miraculously disappear after a nap, right?

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁, 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗼.

** Over the years, I keenly studied and observed Josh, who was genuinely happy, all the time.

Well, he's still single, not ultra-rich, and is overworked at his job. Despite this, he carries with him a magnetic aura, and showed that external circumstances (relationships 👩‍❤️‍👩, money 💰) are irrelevant to his happiness.

I noticed that Josh has two attributes very few people have:

✅ He has an insane ability to 𝗙𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗦
✅ He is keenly aware of his "hot buttons" (things he dislikes) and things that make him happy

You see, Josh never overthinks, and is truly engrossed in whatever task he is currently on, whether it's an unpleasant job, or a pleasant one, like watching a movie. He just doesn't THINK unnecessarily.

** In truth, researchers show us that many of our problems are imagined 🤔. Napping, (or meditation, if you do it well), clears those away. For "real", pressing problems, an emotional reset (after a good snooze) has countless benefits too.

Here's the secret: Josh focuses really well on SLEEPING 😴, too.

** Life isn't easy. Perhaps, it was never meant to be. But, it can be much sweeter if we stop overthinking and making things worse than they are.

Finally, many years later, I understand what Josh was trying to say.

I too, love naps!
