I was really lost in Primary School! I never finished my homework and I was the target of my Teachers' cruel comments and punishments.
I believed them! - that I was stupid, lazy and that I would never succeed in life.
I remember crying in class, hating myself, wishing futilely that I could change.
A girl named Rachel, my best frenemy, sat next to me. We often disturbed each other, but we also developed a close bond.
Often, I would ask to copy her homework. As kids often are, she was fickle minded! Sometimes she threatened to tell Teacher, sometimes she would let me copy in exchange for favors.
But she always comforted me when I got punished by Teacher.
To this day, 25 years later, we are still great friends. Looking back, I'm amazed at the social skills we pick up in school, even at very young ages!
Negotiation, conflict resolution, resilience, persuasion, compassion, bargaining, planning ahead. All these are valuable skills we use for a lifetime.
Sadly, many of these skills are lost in the online classroom! Today, for many Children, the most important skill is appearing focused when they're actually playing games or chatting on another window!
